If there was ever a weekend to get yourself up and out to Williamsburg, to strut your ______ (Manhattan, Jersey, Long Island, Peoria) self along Bedford Avenue, this is it. We’ve got a whole boatload of action going on starting on Saturday in McCarren Park with the Market in McCarren happening side-by-side with “It’s My Park Day” and the 6th annual Kite Festival in support of PS 132 - the line-up of good times includes stuff for kids (Audra Rox rocks it starting at noon).
Saturday’s Market in McCarren has a growing crew of cutting edge designers, crafters and some soon-to-be-phenoms of the artisanal food-making scene (Bullfrog EATs, Kickstand Coffee). Highlights and newbies at this week’s market include Paisley & Brass (rock & roll looks and jewels for the everyday – below, left), the delightful return of Studio Rouge and Hanky Blanky (fun gear for kids and grown-ups who want to feel like kids), Keen-o Calder (edgy, indie, cool & hip design and style – say that fast 5 times - below, right) and Adorned By Morgan (jewels that sparkle, glimmer and shine – bottom, right).
For a break from the sun and the heat (and an opportunity to bounce to some of the DJ beats care of new beat-mixer, spinmaster KerryO), check out the Indoor Market on North 6th (Saturday & Sunday, 12-8pm) where there are over 50 indie artists, designers and vintage dealers setting up shop and playing show-and-sell.
Artfuls (pictured at top) takes the best of the emerging Hungarian design scene and brings it to Brooklyn. It’s a bit of East meets West meets middle earth with edge and moxy and we’re pretty stoked to see it in the flesh ourselves – messenger bags, jewelry, accessories, Tees and more. Saturday, 12-8pm.
A tie is not just a tie – it’s the thing that can define you. Or, said another way, let Graham Withers make your everyday get-up a little more sensational (pictured left). Saturday, 12-8pm.
Gena Marek has some fine-looking handmade, hand-crafted jewelry and accessories that she couldn’t be more tickled to show. They’re a delight to hold and behold. Sunday, 12-8pm.
Georgia Anne Jackson does a new twist on that classic culture of recycling textiles and turning them into art. She’ll show you what she does and how she does it both days so there’s more for more of you. Saturday & Sunday, 12-8pm.
See you at the showS~!
