A slightly different Thursday dispatch that deviates from our standard Vendor of the Week series with a brief intro to Karen Seiger, author of the recently published Markets of New York City. Karen is a tireless student, advocate and promoter of all things market-related. She’ll be setting up outside the market on North 6th Street this Saturday to share her book, her stories, her passion and her pleasures. It’s a nice timing of sorts since this weekend also plays host to Williamsburg Walks, a multi-block festival that closes Bedford Avenue from North 4th to 9th Streets and showcases a ton of what the local community is of and about.  The list of organizations, businesses and activities is truly impressive and huge. There is something for everyone.

Check out, hang out, shop and make new friends throughout the day this weekend and make sure to catch some of the music that will be spilling out across the neighborhood from Make Music NY (check out the piano at McCarren Park right next to the Market in McCarren (Saturday, 11am-6pm)), the Silversun Pickups playing the Williamsburg Waterfront concerts on Friday (6:30pm) where a handful of Artists & Fleas vendors will be set up as part of the local artist and designer showcase we’re running over there or check in to the L Magazine’s Northside Festival (starting tonight).

Good stuff made great…we can’t wait!
