If you’re a coffee fiend who loves the hunt for that cherished experience of great coffee and great community, you got to get to know the guys behind this Summer’s Brooklyn artisanal food sensation – Kickstand Coffee. The 3 creators – Neal Olson, Peter Castelein, and Aaron Davis – have serious Williamsburg coffee yichus (that’s yiddish for heritage or street cred) and they know their beans (Gimme! Coffee, Cafe Grumpy, and other local roasters and purveyors of black gold). Check them out every weekend where they set-up their pedal-powered stand outside Artists & Fleas slaking thirsts, making friends and growing the community of cool.
Artists & Fleas: What’s the story behind Kickstand?
Kickstand: We decided to fuse our love of bikes and coffee, hoping to bring the best coffee in a new way.
Artists & Fleas: Tell us about your display – how long did it take you to make?
Kickstand: It took just under a week… a crazy week. It folds up so that we can transport it by bike.
Artists & Fleas: Obviously the quality of coffee is important to you – how do you decide what brands to use?
Kickstand: We cup samples from our favorite roasters every week and decide based on what we like.
Artists & Fleas: Have you contemplated making a signature Kickstand Coffee?
Kickstand: There’s talk of doing some small batch roasting.
Artists & Fleas: What do you like about selling at Artists & Fleas?
Kickstand: We love hangin’ with all the vendors and being around super creative entrepreneurs
Artists & Fleas: What has been the best and worst things about running your own business?
Kickstand: It’s a lot of work, but we love the work we’re doing.
Artists & Fleas: Is there anything else you’d like us to know?
Kickstand: Be on the lookout for our weekly take-home cold brew coffee program!
