You’re in for a treat this week. Our featured vendor is none other than Georgia herself! Georgia Varidakis has been with us for over 4 years and is one hell of a vendor-turned-manager. Come to the market to see her beautiful creations or just to see her beautiful self. She’s always there and excited to meet all our visitors.
A&F: What are your products?
Georgia: I design jewelry, drawing from antiques and nature for inspiration. I work in all metals, from brass to 24k gold, and use semi-precious stones.
A&F: How did you get into jewelry design?
Georgia: I've always enjoyed the design process. Originally, I began with revamping and combining vintage jewelry pieces, but felt that it was still not quite what I envisioned. So I borrowed some of my father's tools, went through a lot of trial-and-error practice, and then started taking metalsmithing classes whenever I could.
A&F: How'd you get involved in the market?
Georgia: I joined Artists and Fleas in October of 2005 as a vendor. I immediately fell in love with it. The energy, the people, the vibe... when I heard that A & F needed a manager, I jumped at the opportunity to help the market that helped me turn my passion into a career.
A&F: What inspires you as an artist?
Georgia: Mostly my parents. They moved from to New York not knowing anyone or even how to speak English. As a cobbler and a seamstress, they depended on their craft to support our family. The first skirt I ever made was using vintage French lace my mother held onto and my first necklace was using taps from a pair of dance shoes my dad repaired.
