It all started when Meri Vallo started designing beautiful backyard landscapes with reclaimed wood and found objects. She was only doing it for friends until she found that people were into her style and aesthestic. From that, she began making furniture and lighting and soon Evolving Habitat was born. Her current line of products includes funky wooden jewelry, hanging air plants with hand-woven yarn, antler chandeliers, and tree trunk lamps. Most of the materials she uses are found or recycled: naturally shed antlers come from Texas, exotic pieces of wood are from sick or dead trees upstate where Meri recently re-located after being forced to leave her Long Beach home in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, jewelry is made from the wood scraps, and lighting fixtures are mostly thrifted.
The products Meri creates all have purpose and embody her love for trees - once living things that she believes hold spirits and should be given new life.
After a Fall & Winter re-charge, Evolving Habitat is back in Williamsburg with a vengeance and Meri has new merch every weekend that has the crowds oohing and aching. Check it out this weekend and every weekend this Spring!
