Makin' It: Handmade Handiwork

It's no secret. We love raw talent - the kind where people walk in the door having never debuted their collections to the public before. It's part of what A&F is about. This week’s brought Hanae, a Japanese artist/designer and the creator behind No. 5 Handwork. She makes a wide array of sweet, handmade products. Wallets and phone cases made from old pants, colorful pen cases, little coin purses, fabric flags, tiny baby bibs, and more.

Hanae's been sewing for most of her life, but just started selling her creations in June after she got pregnant with her first child. What’s so fascinating about her creativity is the feeling she presents in her products and the way they’re displayed: Small baskets filled with individually wrapped hair bows and packets of origami birds; tiny black board signs; draped vintage doilies; and an accordion wooden fence that holds totes and purses.  It’s the perfect blend of rustic and romantic, and just makes you want to look at every treasure on the table.
