First we noticed the sausage link leash on a fabulous looking dachshund, and then we noticed 'DodgerDog' was making the rounds — not only a visit every weekend, but showing his adorable face at both our Abbot Kinney and Arts District locations in LA! His devotion and charming disposition have unofficially crowned him our Artists & Fleas in Los Angeles mascot.
We sat DodgerDog (and his owner) down for a few questions after he participated in last weekend's Puppy Costume Contest.
DodgerDog, when did you first start visiting Artists & Fleas?
On March 22nd 2015 my human, Rachel, took me and my brother 'Kobe' on our first Artist & Fleas outing at Mateo St. There were so many great smells and smiling faces. We enjoyed meeting all the Artists but made sure not to attract any Fleas because they make me itchy.
What's your favorite part of the market to explore?
I especially like exploring behind the curtains, under tables, in the 'dressing room tents' and of course cooling off in the trucks and RVs!
Do you have any special vendors or stores you like to visit?
Everyone seems to love the HotDog Links Leash that I would share with Kobe!
Sadly my Kobe-buddy passed away this August but our new Market Friends, Mo at Mouré Designs, Fiona from No-Tox Life, Sweet Virtues, the Beautiful Things LA Bus and Jaimee at Coast to Coast Vintage have helped Rachel and me with his loss. Because of their support, Saturdays at the Market has been a tradition we carry on in his memory.
How do you feel about your recent rise to social media fame, and your big win at the Halloween costume contest?
It was such an honor to see my furry-self on Instagram and Facebook after my many visits to both the Venice and Arts District markets. I've never dressed up for Halloween until this year's Costume Contest and what a treat that was! I'm glad the judges liked my hat and my smile. And regarding all the attention, as long long as they pet me before and afterwards, i'm okay with the pictures...maybe I should have my own account?
If you could be a vendor with Artists & Fleas, what would your shop sell?
If I were a vendor my space would be full of curtains to hide in and have rugs and pillows to nap on. I would sell novelty leashes like mine so everyone can walk around like a hotdog! But...until then you can find me with the tag #adventuresofDodgerDog. It was very nice meeting you all, I would give you a high five but my legs are too short so we can shake instead! Have a ween-derful day!
