Artists & Fleas is seeking a fulltime Assistant Market and Events Manager for its Williamsburg, Brooklyn location. The Assistant Market and Events Manager will assist the Market Manager in all Market Operations, Vendor Relations, Event Planning and Marketing efforts with specific duties associated with each as outlined below. The ideal candidate has 1-2 years of experience in event production or a related field. They personally invest themselves in their work and gain satisfaction from a well executed event or project. An interest in local production and the “maker” culture is a plus.
● Retail Merchandising, Administration & Operations Duties:
During market business hours (both when the market is open to the general public and in the time available to vendors for loadin, loadout on Thursdays), you will work to ensure that all aspects of the market are managed appropriately. You will play a key role in managing visual standards of the market including: market’s appearance, organization and cleanliness; overall facility responsibility and upkeep. You will be required to handle and reconcile payments and collections (where applicable and necessary), ensure that vendors are in attendance for our retail hours, and assist in creating a positive vibe (this includes music, lighting, temperature, customer and vendor flow.) *Note: You must be able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds for this position.
● Vendor Relations & Market Curation:
You will serve as a critical team member and represent the Artists & Fleas brand to current and prospective vendors. For current vendors, you will assist as an onsite point person during the selling day where you will be asked to engage with vendors and their sales staff (where applicable). For prospective vendors, you will play a key business development role in capturing new vendor/business inquiries and work to help vet promising prospects. Additionally, you will assist in vendor curation and selection and work as part of a team to optimize the market selling experience for everyone. Much of this can be generally summarized as community building.
● Marketing Duties:
You will be responsible for developing and assisting in several aspects of marketing the A&F brand across a variety of platforms together with A&F team members. This includes but is not necessarily limited to the following areas:
○ Content – this refers to digital content (i.e. text and photos) for our website, blog and social media during the course of the selling weekend and for us to “inventory” during the week.
○ Community Outreach – identification of and outreach to community partners and potential partnering organizations
○ Facilitating Media Requests – assist in fielding requests and inquiries from media outlets during weekend market hours
● Special Event Production:
You will serve as a key stakeholder in creating, organizing and producing seasonal shopping events. In this role, you will work with the Market Manager to manage event timelines and production deadlines and ensure that goals are set and a work plan is in place to achieve them. You will also coordinate marketing and publicity efforts together with other team members to promote and publicize the event/s through direct inperson, guerrilla and social media channels. You will be encouraged to take the lead on developing new events.
Please note, this is a full time salaried position (annual base salary of $40k) with benefits.
Days required: Tuesday Thursday (10am – 6pm) & Saturday and Sunday (8:30am – 8pm).
