We sat down with #afinla merchants California Crown, purveyors of quality Golden State-centric headwear and garments for a little Q&A. Find out why they call their headwear crowns, how far people drive to get their goods, and what's on the horizon!
1. If you could describe California Crown in 3 words what would you say and why?
California Crown can be described with the words quality, comfort, and style.
Our brand goal is to locally source the finest materials and fabrics from the state of California and the greater US and to also assemble our goods here in DTLA. We maintain a healthy relationship with 20+ mills & factories in both the US and countries overseas such as Peru & China to produce the finest items.
All of our products are engineered with comfort in mind while providing functionality & durability. We craft Crowns & timeless clothing that make people take notice, but you can wear with ease.
2. When it comes to designing for men do you find it harder than women and is the process different?
We design for both men & women equally and find that both genders find common ground when it comes to our premium headwear & sweaters. Comfort & quality is something we all appreciate, therefore it is a staple in our design process.
3. Where does the design inspiration come from?
We draw inspiration from the culture, history, and natural surroundings of the Golden State when developing a California Crown piece. We look to past and current trends to incorporate into our design philosophy, which is built on the foundation of quality, comfort, and functionality.
4. What's your your top sellers, what garments sell the most?
I would say our Crowns in general sell the most considering we are a premium headwear brand. From the luxury inspired "Suede Wave Caps" to our new 100% water resistant "CA Commuters" caps, our community members are looking for something more than just a “hat".
Hoodies and Sweaters come second as a lot of these pieces use imported fabrics from Peru and Spain with great amount of detail and quality. Although we strive to source and assemble a majority of the products here in the US, we work with vendors who comply with ethical labor laws to produce some of our more specific collections.
5. How do you like participating in our A&F market?
Being conveniently located in Santa Monica, CA, it is a pleasure to drive 10 min south to take part in the Venice A&F market. We get to see first hand how the locals from this great state react when they see the Crown for the first time. And being located walking distance from Venice beach, it is one of the nicer outdoor markets we attend. We have had people drive out from Fresno, San Diego, and the OC after reading our newsletter to take advantage of the discounts we offer at the Venice A&F market. The great atmosphere and the talented crew who run the Venice A&F market keeps us coming back.
6. What's next for CA Crown, what can we expect in the near future?
We hope to continue and build or loyal community through shows like Venice A&F as we expand our global reach through our online website (www.CaliforniaCrownClothing.com). We are currently in 32 brick and mortar locations across the nation and working towards our own flagship store here in Los Angeles and in San Francisco. The future is bright for @CaliforniaCrown and we appreciate every single customer and supporter who has walked into our space at Venice A&F. We hope to continue to serve our community as we take this brand to new heights.
