Wicked Heathens has been an #AFinBK staple since her beginnings with us at Artists & Fleas in 2014. Founded by Martha Henry, her brand is a jewelry line of unique designs taking inspiration from geometry, forms, and structures both natural and man-made. All of Martha’s pieces are handmade using traditional metalworking and lost wax casting techniques. We chatted with Martha to get the scoop on how she grew her business, and what she's planning next!
How did you get started with your jewelry business?
Martha Henry: Back in 2014 I was working for a jewelry e-commerce start up. The owner of the company saw my jewelry designs and really loved them. She invested in my ideas and helped me to start my own brand.
When did you first start selling at Artists & Fleas?
MH: I started selling at Artists & Fleas in June of 2014. I had a booth at their Chelsea Market location for a month, and it was my first time ever selling my own handmade jewelry so I really had no idea what I was doing! I ended up learning so much throughout the whole process.
Your business and sense of aesthetic has evolved quite a bit over the years - where do you find inspiration for all the change?
MH: I think that my jewelry has evolved as my skills have developed over the years. Everything is a lot cleaner and more precise than it was when I first started.
What's the next step for your business, and how do you plan to get there?
MH: Right now I'm trying to acquire more wholesale accounts, so there are some trade shows in New York and Las Vegas that I'll be attending in the coming months - including Pooltradeshow!
