Nothing feels quite as nice as coming home to a well decorated apartment. That's why we're pumped to be joined by AM Design in our Williamsburg Pop Out space for the next two weekends in September! We sat down with Ali McEnhill, the brains behind the operation, to get the scoop on her business, approach, and what she'll be bringing to Artists & Fleas.
What's the inspiration behind your brand?
AM Design is a residential interior design firm and shop representing all things AM loves. As an interior designer, I am constantly searching for new and interesting objects created by other designers, artists, and craftsman from across the globe for my clients. In my searches, I come across more amazing items then I can ever sell to my clients (without turning them into hoarders) so I decided to turn my passion for furniture and design objects into a shop. I am also a maker myself and love to showcase my own goods along with my vintage and global finds.
How do you work, and how do you differ from other design firms?
I spent my first two and a half years in New York City working primarily in staging. There I learned how to make an apartment shine on a very limited budget within a very short time frame, but wasn’t happy repeating the same designs over and over. I spent the last two and a half years in New York working in super luxury interior design where I learned all about fine furnishings, finishes, fabrics, artists, and craftsman and never had to repeat the same design twice, but projects would stretch on for three years or more.
AM Design bridges the gap between the two fields. My experience with both allows me to bring a hint of luxury (or more if the client wants!) to any project regardless of the size or budget, yet allows each project to be unique and completed relatively quickly. I do this by being extremely upfront about pricing – I provide instant estimates on my website – and by taking the time to truly understand what clients are looking for from the get go. For anyone not interested in whole house interior design, my shop features many designer items at a fair price. I’m also happy to help source individual items if needed.
What types of products will be featured at Artists & Fleas? What will people find there?
People will find a curated collection of vintage, antique, and handmade goods ranging from a pair of amazing Josef Hoffman Fledermaus chairs from 1907 (my favorite!) to a minimalist coffee table by Paul Mayen circa 1960 to Moroccan wool pompom pillowcases and blankets.
