Ten Tips for Market Success

  1. Build Excitement. Secure your selling dates and tell the world. Share photos and dates on social media and your website.
  2. Make Your Display Tell a Story. Use colors, textures, scents, and props to bring your brand to life. A strong visual identity makes your booth stand out—and stick in people’s minds.
  3. All Killer, No Filler. Less is more. Too many choices overwhelm shoppers. Curate your display so your best products shine and decisions are easier.
  4.  Think Like a Customer. Would you stop at your space? Is it tidy, inviting, and easy to browse? Be the friendly, helpful merchant you’d want to meet.
  5. Engage, Engage, Engage! People love to meet the maker behind the product. Smile, make eye contact, share your story. Want to keep people engaged longer? Add an interactive element like a spin-to-win or mini quiz.
  6. Positive Energy Is Infectious. Your energy sets the tone. Ditch the phone, stay present, and lead with positivity. Availability helps turn visitors into customers. A warm smile and open body language go a long way.
  7. Give Them a Reason to Stay Connected. Not every visitor buys today—but they might tomorrow. Display your social handles, QR codes, and email sign-up prominently. Make it easy to keep in touch.
  8. Cultivate Your Clients (a.k.a. Clienteling). Get to know your customers, what they purchase, and what they like so you can reach out in the future with specific products. Personalized attention = loyal customers
  9. Listen, Observe, Learn, and Revise. Our markets offer so much information—if you’re paying attention. What’s drawing people in? What’s not selling? Observe, listen, and adjust. Improvement is part of the process.
  10.  Be a Good Neighbor. So many wonderful, creative people sell at our markets (you included!). Share tips, cheer each other on, collaborate.
